Methodology
THP-1 cells (monocyte-derived macrophages) incubated with antibody-opsonized fluorescent beads. Cells stained with wheat germ agglutinin (membrane, orange) and DAPI (nuclei, blue). Fluorescent beads (green) indicate phagocytosed particles.
Usage examples
Measuring phagocytic capacity of immune cells. Quantifying uptake of opsonized particles. Assessing effectiveness of antibody opsonization. Analyzing spatial distribution of phagocytic activity.
Technical notes
Three-channel fluorescence: DAPI (blue) for nuclei, FITC (green) for phagocytosed beads, TRITC/wheat germ agglutinin (orange) for cell membrane. Enables quantification of prey per cell and identification of cells with different phagocytic capacity.
